The grass, or what holds it down?
Vetiver oil is distilled from the roots of a grass. Cleaning, drying and distillation all influence its character. Earthy, woody and smoky impressions can be part of that character; a smoky smell alone does not tell you how a still was heated.
This fragrance is also being developed for body & hair oil.

Roots are pulled from the dark soil, washed in the river and dried on racks in the highland air. A wood fire runs beneath the still. Smoke, water and root meet before the afternoon rain comes across Garut.
