When does wood become agarwood?
Gaharu is resin-rich Aquilaria wood. This fragrance direction begins with cultivated agarwood, drawing its dry timber and resinous warmth close to skin.
How the material becomes scent
Aquilaria can form aromatic resin in response to injury and biological stress. Cultivated production may encourage this through inoculation or other induction methods. The resin-rich wood can be used as incense or distilled; its character varies with the material and processing.
This fragrance is also being developed for dupa incense.

In the grader's room, a sliver of cultivated Aquilaria is placed on charcoal. The smoke rises slowly and is read like a page: dry wood, shadow and resin. Outside, planted trees wait for the long work of time.
